On my flight, I just broke down in tears. I’m sitting next to a stranger and I am not sure what I would do if I were in their position, but how could she just sit there and watch me cry?
This raises the question: when someone is crying, is it your place to comfort them? To comfort or to ignore? It is a difficult decision that requires vulnerability from both people to acknowledge the pain—but ignoring it almost feels worse than confronting it.
