a good parking spot changes everything

At my apartment, there are these two spots that are just perfect. You back into them and then when you need to leave it’s a straight shot down the hill. It’s a feeling like no other. My apartment has some reserved spots, usually the best ones/closest to a door. Well, one of the two awesome spots used to be reserved, now it’s a free-for-all. It feels like we (apartment people) unlocked a level together. We’re playing a game to see who can get it. I haven’t had the awesome spot for at least two weeks. Until today…And now that I have secured it, I can’t leave my apartment. It’s a double-edged sword because I get so excited when I get a good parking spot that sometimes I do whatever I can to make it last longer, even if it means not leaving my apartment all weekend.

Last year I finally perfected backing into parking spaces. I know this is a pretty mediocre accomplishment, but I was so excited I was finally good at it that I started doing it everywhere I deemed necessary. School is one of those places because they never have enough parking. It’s always jam-packed. If I back into a spot I can get out much easier, it finally makes sense to me why people do it all the time. I was giddy every time I backed into a space. Until…I got a parking ticket at school. I was so confused. I didn’t know why I got a ticket because I parked in the same parking lot I always do, so I didn’t see the problem until I read the fine print. I got a parking ticket because I backed into a space, and my license plate wasn’t visible. I thought this had to be a joke. Why would someone seek me out like that? SMU Parking is out to get anyone and will look for any reason to ticket someone. Because why else would they give me a ticket if I were parked in the right place, they really took the time to do that, but they couldn’t take the time to walk around my car and see my license plate. I was pissed. I am not from Texas, I am from Georgia, where license plates are only on the back of cars. Even if I wanted to get another license plate to put on the front I couldn’t. Trust me I tried. I was more than upset, I had just mastered this new skill and now you’re telling me I can’t do it?????UGH

All that to say, a good parking spot truly does change everything.
